Vice President of Product Management

The Vice President of Product Management leads the Product Management team to define the roadmap for long-term product strategy and execution by gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with internal departments to deliver.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

  • Discovers and validates urgent and pervasive problems in the market by interviewing customers, recent evaluators, and untapped, potential customers.
  • Acts as the voice of the customer (and potential customer) by staying current with industry trends through reading educational journals, magazines, papers, blogs, etc., and attending webinars, conferences, forums, etc.
  • Serves as an ambassador of the company and represents the company on panels and in other public, outward-facing opportunities.
  • Collects, defines, prioritizes, and recommends future product specifications from customers, non-customers, sales, and competitive analyses for both domestic and international product offerings.
  • Meets with customers, business partners, and other industry sources to identify functional requirements.
  • Works closely with Curriculum and Development to ensure that the product collects appropriate data to inform decision-making.
  • Drives the strategic agenda and roadmap for the product with input from Curriculum, Development, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success.
  • Works closely with the Executive team to set long-term product strategy. Messages product direction, roadmap, progress, and schedule changes to the Executive Committee.
  • Works closely with Curriculum and Development to develop detailed and actionable requirements (User Stories) and assists with the timely execution of product development to specification using the agile development process.
  • Reviews progress continually to ensure attainment of objectives and makes course corrections when and where necessary to achieve goals.
  • Works with Development teams during the development cycle to ensure the product meets customer requirements; performs the correct priority tradeoffs to meet development schedules.
  • Works with the Marketing team to prepare the market launch plans and activities.
  • Performs other duties as may be reasonably required by Management.



  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred

Required Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of product management processes
  • Understanding of sales models and go-to-market strategies and product launches
  • Strong understanding of technology to include Saas, Tablet, and Big Data

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of product management experience with a track record of delivering software products
  • Previous marketing experience preferred
  • Previous experience managing a team of product managers preferred
  • Strong background in agile development methodologies


  • Ability to see where the market, competition, and industry are going and to create a strong vision for where the product needs to be in order to win the market and delight customers.
  • A master generalist with the ability to talk to engineers, users, executives, finance, marketing, sales, and other groups without tripping
  • Ability to understand the requirements of the various decision makers in an organization and how to be the customer advocate
  • Ability to create Use Cases & User Stories, perform competitive analysis, feature/function prioritization and assessment
  • Proven teamwork and people management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to gather data and make recommendations using sources such as financial statements, primary and secondary research, and customer and partner interviews
